3 Things to Do When You’re Stuck in a Mom Style Rut

I’m going to start this with, I believe that fashion is transformative. When you look good, you feel good. Firm believer in that. Always have, always will. I’m going to quickly follow that up with, I get it. Heck, I’m in it - I’ve got a 7, 3 and 2 year old. And even me, who has worked in the fashion industry for years still has days when wearing a great outfit is the furthest thing from my mind.

That said, as the founder of The Stylish Co. - a personal, virtual styling service for women -  I wanted to share with you three things I do when I’m stuck in a style rut. Whether it’s because you've been in sweatpants for the last two years, you simply don't have the time or you are in need of something a little more special  - we’ve created a way for moms to take the stress, time and headache out of shopping and really love what they put on each and every day.

Keep reading to see my tips.

Clean Out Your Closet:

There’s nothing like a fresh start. And no, this doesn’t necessarily need to be a Marie Kondo / Home Edit full on closet redo (but more power to you if you can)!  Instead, focus on taking out a few pieces that no longer work for you or how you want your style to be. Take a moment to organize your closet - put all the hangers to face the same way, categorize sections by dresses, tops, blazers etc. If you’re feeling extra inspired, organize by color. I can’t tell you what this does for seeing old pieces, creating a bit of zen (especially amongst that madness of motherhood) and creating a fresh outlook on your existing style. Pro tip: Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was your closet. I sneak in moments across a few days to do these things and before I know it my closet is in a better place.

Get Pinning:

Head to Pinterest and start searching for terms that resonate with you. Think “what to wear to work”, “weekend style”, “cool mom outfit ideas” and create a board of things you like. I always tell people to just start pinning all the things. Then take a look at your board - are there certain items or styles that keep popping up? If yes, then take that as your sign that you love them. And start to sort out how your existing wardrobe can get you there or start to do some shopping!

Call in the Experts:

When you’re really stuck, or maybe have no idea where to start, I recommend calling in an expert. At The Stylish Co., we focus on working with moms at this stage of life - yes we’re busy, but we most certainly aren’t ready to give up on our style. Maybe you just need a bit of direction or maybe you want to work directly with a personal stylist regularly who will take your style to the next level in the easiest and most low stress way possible. Either way, our incredible team of personal stylists are here to help.

We created The Stylish Co. as a way to help women in this phase of life. Sure, things may look a bit different now - our lives, our priorities, our bodies, even our shopping habits - but we still want clothes that look good and that feel good. I believe that dressing well is a form of self care - and you should too.

If you’re stuck in a style rut, I hope these tips work for you and when in doubt reach out for help.
