Self Care Hacks for New Moms

As a new mom so often you’re putting yourself last. Learning how to take the time you need for yourself is a learned skill. We have gathered some self-care hacks that we think are especially useful for new mothers that tend to go out of the way for everyone but themselves.

Do yourself a favor and try one or two of these today, yes?

#1: Outsource A Task

Letting go of the control of doing everything and learning how to ask for help is the first step in self-preservation. Apps like TaskRabbit or services like Lilvil are a great foray into the world of asking for help.  A GREAT task to outsource is thank you note writing for all of those baby gifts. Check out the app Felt for handwritten cards that you don’t have to write.

#2: Listen to Your Favorite Podcasts

Tuning out the noise is a crucial skill in new motherhood. Podcasts are a simple way to start. Give yourself the time to dive back into your favorites or try something new. We can’t recommend The Sleepy Qs Podcast for new mothers enough :)

#3: Order In Your Groceries

Take this weekly task (somewhat) off your list.  Grocery delivery was made for people just like you. You still have jurisdiction over what you choose, but don’t have to do the heavy lifting (literally) or take the baby to the store.  Even better, if you live in a multi floor walk up building, someone else will bring the groceries right to your door.  No more trying to figure out how to get your baby and your groceries upstairs simultaneously.

#4: Get Outside

This one is great for both mom and baby. Getting fresh air is always a good thing. Vitamin D is a critical nutrient, and prioritizing time in the sun can make positive mood changes. Plus, fresh air is good for you. Don’t let yourself get cooped up inside for too long.  While a lot of moms are out walking with their babies, there is something to be said for an independent walk.  This is a good time for your partner to spend time with your baby and build their confidence in their role as a parent.  Maybe this is a walk all on your own or if you have a dog, this can be good one on one time with your fur baby.  He or she is probably looking for a bit of attention.

#5: Book A Virtual Stylist

When you look good, you feel good. Invest in yourself and indulge in a personal styling service. The Stylish Co. offers virtual professional styling services helping you to create outfits in your closet you’ll actually want to reach for.

#6: Drink A Cup of Tea

The practice of making a cup of tea is soothing in itself. Opt for green tea if you need a healthy dose of caffeine.

#7: Take Time For An Old Hobby

While there is no shame in opting for doing nothing (especially when you have a rare moment to yourself), picking up a hobby can feel good too. Get crafty, read a book, or make yourself a special meal  - whatever it is, do something for yourself.

#8: Work Positive Affirmations Into Your Daily Routine

Starting your morning off with optimistic yet practical affirmations helps set your intentions for the day. Or, write some on the bathroom mirror to remind yourself before bedtime. Head to Pinterest to gather some inspiration.

#9: Hire A Sleep Coach

Getting enough rest as a new mother should be taken seriously. Before your sleep is compromised, consult Sleep Tight Consultants to stock up on practical sleep training advice.

One of the most important lessons you can learn as a new mom is how to take care of yourself. Set aside time for yourself every day, even if it’s just a few minutes. Try out a couple of these tips, or find support in one of our group sessions to ensure you’re taking care of you too mama.
